Where is Thumbkin?
To learn more about features available on my iPhone I watched a tutorial on Lynda.com. Although I literally watched my husband set up his fingerprint scan on his phone last week, I didn't realize Touch ID was also available on my phone. So, after watching the tutorial, I followed the steps, went to settings to activate Touch ID and used my thumbprint. This part was easy enough.
Now comes the fun...You may remember from Thing 1 that I have fat thumb syndrome (FTS) and struggled to enter my name. FTS is also working against me in Thing 2! Using the thumb scan has proven difficult for me. First, I was pressing too hard and then after my phone was unlocked I was either activating Siri or opening apps. Second, I kept forgetting that I only scanned my right thumb. While I'm right handed and do usually use my right thumb I'm shocked to find out how many times I wake my phone up with my left hand. The left hand versus right hand thing kept coming into play when I was busy and had no opportunity to resolve it. For instance, in the middle of cooking and trying to use my phone for a recipe and food was burning.
Frustrated with it all, I turned off Touch ID before I went to bed last night. I use my phone as my alarm and I didn't want anything to get in the way of the snooze setting this morning!
But today is a new day and I'll see where these thumbs can take me :)
